no more beer?
by josh on May 9th, 2007
they are seriously trying to pass an alcohol ban for major league baseball players?
ummm, coors field, miller park, and the milwaukee brewers come to mind.
of course this all comes to play due to the recent death of a st. louis cardinals pitcher. oddly enough, the general public didn’t find out it was alcohol related until after the “let’s do it for the gipper†story played out. at first it was just reported as a traffic fatality.
now, not taking away from the fact there was a death, but is it really the alcohol’s fault?
i think the real thing that worries me is the hypocrisy shown from major league baseball. just over a year ago, “performance enhancing†drugs was the issue for not only baseball but our federal government. now it’s a player having a beer? we want to mold and form these guys into the “perfect specimenâ€Â, but are going to fault them for using supplements to form that ideal image?
needless to say, it’s not about having a beer. it’s about not holding people accountable for their decisions. major league baseball is trying to promote the maturity of their sport. yet they want to treat their players like 18 year old high school kids that are sneaking beers after the “big game
that’s just silly to me.
they are big boys, making big-big money. how about we treat them like it and not impose standards based on a few bad apples? or even more so, a few fatal mistakes that happen everyday in life outside of baseball.
ps. LET’S GO BREWERS!
